ABOUT Dr. Sarah
HERSTORY
I am a wilderness emergency medicine physician, expedition and trip consultant, author and leader. I serve as Director of US Operations for World Extreme Medicine, Medical Lead for Project NEPTUNE 100, Co-Medical Director for Unalaska Fire and EMS, Expedition Medicine Column Editor for Wilderness Medicine Magazine, and I am part of the medical support team for a few film and television productions.
I began as a search and rescue medic, progressed to ambulance and fire rescue, became a physician assistant, and finally went to medical school. I trained in emergency medicine residency at UNC Health Southeastern.
ADVENTURE IS FOR EVERYONE
I believe that adventure and exploration should be accessible to everyone. With thoughtful planning, proper training, and proactive risk mitigation, I advocate that even the most remote and challenging environments can be approached with a reasonable degree of safely. My work focuses on empowering individuals and teams to pursue bold experiences, without compromising too much on safety, and with the knowledge and tools needed to mitigate situations – so that small problems – do not progress to expedition ending catastrophies.
